I had the incredible opportunity to transform a charming period property in Surrey's tranquil countryside. With a family of four and a very old hamster settling into this home, my task was to modernise the space while still honouring the historical essence of the house.

Exuding warmth and cosiness   in the formal sitting room

The first step was to design a sitting room that, on our first visit, was open to the elements and lacked any character and charm. This room had so much potential. With vision, it was a space that could exude warmth and cosiness. The family yearned for a place to gather for quality time, play games, and watch TV, while later, the parents retreated as a couple after the kids were in bed.

Combining functionality with a touch of sophistication, we meticulously crafted the ideal layout, ensuring that seating for six fit harmoniously within the room's narrow space. The addition of luxurious period features through Victorian-inspired interior design, reclaimed Victorian fireplace and reinstated panelling. The finished room is infused with a timeless charm that exceeded their expectations. The carefully chosen dark green and blue tones on the panelling provided an elevated sense of sophistication, perfectly complementing the historical references.

To create an enchanting ambience, we employed layered lighting techniques, incorporating stylish lamps, pendant lights, and picture lights that bathed the room in a warm, welcoming glow during the evenings. In addition, we meticulously chose patterns and textures in our fabric selections to amplify the sense of warmth and cosiness, enriching the overall experience. The result was a delightful nook where the family could snuggle up and unwind at the end of a long day.

The master bedroom: a peaceful sanctuary with breathtaking views

Moving on to the master bedroom, we embraced the breathtaking garden views as our muse for this peaceful sanctuary. Drawing inspiration from nature, we carefully curated a colour palette that brought the serenity of the outdoors into the room. Soft, calming neutrals formed the backdrop, enriched with delicate pink and green undertones. The artful blend of subtle patterns and textures elevated the space, immersing it in an air of soothing elegance that any master bedroom craves.

Curtain fabrics for grace and refinement

My role as an interior designer extended beyond the two main spaces. I also offered my expertise in selecting fabrics for curtains for the remaining rooms, adding the final touch of grace and refinement to every corner of this remarkable home.

By blending traditional charm with contemporary elegance, we have created a home that acknowledges its past while embracing the present—a harmonious haven for their family to thrive in for years to come.
