Exploring Spanish Design: My Journey through Porcelanosa Grupo's Factories
As an interior designer, I’m passionate about integrating quality and aesthetics into my projects. I was thrilled when Richard from Porcelanosa invited me to Spain for an exclusive three-day tour of their factories.
I was very keen to accept the invitation because the group is known globally for its exceptional materials, design solutions, and products from luxurious tiles to high-tech installation systems. Here’s a look at each factory I visited and the inspiring takeaways from each.
Day 1: Discovering the Heart of Porcelanosa - Tile Manufacturing and Distribution
Our journey began with a rather yummy lunch before we headed to Porcelanosa’s central hub and flagship factory for tile manufacturing, logistics, and distribution. I was impressed by the traditional craftsmanship and modern technology that go into the company’s tiles. Each is inspected to ensure it meets the highest standards. The immense variety of patterns, textures, and finishes inspires endless design possibilities for me, whether for a minimalist modern interior, a more classic, or a more decorative space.
Day 2: Took us to six showrooms:
On the second day, we visited Noken, a factory specialising in sanitaryware and brassware. Here, Porcelanosa Grupo showcases taps, sinks, and shower fixtures with sleek, modern lines. Eco-friendly technology that minimises water usage without compromising style. Noken’s brassware, in particular, caught my eye—each piece seemed crafted to be both a design statement and a functional component.
Butech was an exciting showroom to visit. From grouts and adhesives to raised access flooring, facades, and floating stairs, Butech’s offerings ensure that Porcelanosa products are supported by the best structural integrity and longevity. I was fascinated by their prefabricated pods and facades, which demonstrated how Porcelanosa Grupo marries design and engineering for effortless installations.
Krion showcases Porcelanosa’s investment in innovative solid surfaces with its proprietary Krion material—a durable, versatile solid surface perfect for seamless applications in kitchens, bathrooms, and beyond. Their Fitwall decorative panels are particularly impressive for creating statement walls, and their sleek shower doors bring modern elegance to bathrooms.
L’Antic Colonial was a designer’s dream: focusing on natural materials such as real wood, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), marble, and natural stone. It even produces intricate mosaics and high-quality wallpapers that add layers of texture to any space. I was particularly drawn to its marble collections, which exude a timeless elegance perfect for luxury spaces.
Xlite specialises in large porcelain sheets for walls and floors, providing the option for expansive, seamless surfaces. These sheets can transform a space with minimal grout lines, creating a sleek, smooth, elegant, monolithic look perfect for modern interiors. Their large format makes a strong aesthetic impact and offers practical benefits like easier maintenance.
Our last showroom visit took us to Gamadecor, where kitchens, bedrooms, and bathroom vanities take centre stage. This showroom and factory illustrated the company’s expertise in creating bespoke kitchen and bathroom solutions that blend form with function. Gamadecor designs its products for modern living, with customisable layouts, materials, and finishes. The ability to personalise these designs makes them perfect for both residential and commercial projects that demand high functionality without sacrificing aesthetics.
Day 3: Back to the UK
We started early to catch our flight back to the UK. After packing our bags and a quiet airport drive, our trip ended!
Reflections on My Porcelanosa Experience
This tour opened my eyes to the remarkable range of possibilities Porcelanosa Grupo offers designers. From the luxurious textures of L’Antic Colonial to the contemporary lines of Noken and Gamadecor, Porcelanosa’s products allow for cohesive, high-end designs that are also practical. Each factory gave me new ideas and inspirations to take back to my projects, reaffirming the impact of quality materials and expert craftsmanship.
Thank you, Porcelanosa Grupo, for an unforgettable experience in Spanish design!
