Fantastic news! Iā€™m shortlisted for the BIID Awards for the Southeast Region

BIID Awards for the Southeast Region

This year, I entered the prestigious BIID (British Institute of Interior Design) awards, and I'm thrilled to share that I've been shortlisted as a finalist. This is so important to me because I have been a member since I trained as an interior designer.

The BIID has tough entry requirements for training, experience, and professionalism. It says: ā€œThe responsibility of a professional institute is to set the highest standards of practice for its particular profession.ā€

Understandably, I have always been in awe of previous winners and those who were shortlisted. So I see my shortlisting as an important milestone in my professional, personal, and creative development, a testament to my work, and a reflection of my passion for design and commitment to excellence.

Why I entered the awards

  1. Professional Growth: The rigorous selection process and the opportunity to be evaluated by industry leaders provide invaluable feedback and a chance to learn and grow.

  2. Recognition and Validation: Working independently has many benefits but also some disadvantages, such as the lack of the opportunity to bounce ideas off each other and receive feedback. Being recognized by such a distinguished panel affirms the hard work, creativity, and dedication invested in each project.

  3. Inspiration and Innovation: Competitions inspire designers to think outside the box, push boundaries and innovate.

  4. Networking Opportunities: Awards bring together many talented individuals in the industry. Itā€™s a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow designers, collaborators, and suppliers, helping you grow your community of like-minded professionals.

My Journey to Becoming a Finalist

Having applied back in April, I was delighted to receive an email in May informing me that I had been shortlisted. Here are a few highlights so far:

  • Selecting The Project: As a designer who tailors each project to her client's individual tastes, all my projects are unique and a joy to work on. Selecting a project to put forward was challenging, but the Lewes project stood out. This project was a significant interior transformation and profoundly impacted how my clients used this space. This experience underscores my passion for how spaces can positively affect our lives.

  • Completing the Application: From detailed documentation to high-quality visuals, this process was an opportunity to reflect on the project's journey from conception to completion, highlighting the meticulous work and creative thought that went into it.

Being shortlisted for the BIID awards is a significant achievement and an honour. It confirms not only the quality and creativity of my work but also my commitment to continually pushing the boundaries of interior design. This journey has been enriching, providing me with new insights, valuable feedback, and connections within the industry. I look forward to the next steps and continuing to share my passion for design with my clients and peers.
